Pseudotropheus Acei (also known as Yellow-tail acei) is a Mbuna from Lake Malawi. There are two different varieties found, the most common Pseudotropheus Acei (Msuli), and the white-tail Pseudotropheus Acei (Ngara). Like most Mbuna, it dwells in shallower waters, however it will sometimes go near the surface, which is very uncommon for Mbunas. It prefers the sandy and rock filled shoreline where sunken logs are easily accessed. This species has developed the advantage of being able to harvest algae from submerged logs and roots. They are equipped with typical Gephyrochromid cuspid-like teeth that are flat for removing epixlyic or epilithic algae from wood.

Pseudotropheus Aurora like to swim in schools of up to 30 fish when they are in the wild. They hang out in areas where the rocky coastline meets the sandy bottom of the lake. The name of this species is under debate at this time. Other possible names for this fish include Metriaclima and Maylandia.

Pseudotropheus Demasoni is one the newest discoveries coming out of Lake Malawi, being identified and described by Ad Konings in 1994. And in 1999, Pseudotropheus Demasoni was an ACA Class Winner. It has enjoyed a great deal of popularity (although still not yet very abundant), because of its sharp colors and crisp lines. It is similar in appearance to Pseudotropheus Minutus, only that the latter's lines are less distinct and stop before the tail fin. The Demasoni Cichlid, Pseudotropheus Demasoni, is a relatively rare cichlid, which originates from a rocky point called Pombo Rocks, within the waters of Lake Malawi located in Tanzania, Africa. The male of this species has dark blue or black vertical stripes with alternating lighter stripes of light blue to white. The male Demasoni Cichlid also displays the typical spots on the anal fin, and is considerably larger than the female. The female of this species is not as brilliantly colored, and lacks the spots on the anal fin.

Pseudotropheus Flavus was initially classified as Pseudotropheus Elongatus Dinghani, but upon further study of its morphology and habitat it was suggested that this fish was indeed a separate species. Consequently, it received its own species classification. Notwithstanding, Pseudotropheus Flavus is still considered a member of the Pseudotropheus Elongatus complex. Pseudotropheus Flavus is limited to the small island of Chinyankwazi, Lake Malawi. This fish was apparently imported in the late 1970s.

Occurs in the surf zone of the sediment free rocky shore habitat. The habitat at Taiwan Reef is described as rocky with Pseudotropheus Saulosi occurring at depths of 7-15 m, sometimes in large schools foraging on rocky bicover. It feeds on algae, which it nibbles from the rock surface. Males are aggressive in defending their territories against other males.

Pseudotropheus Socolofi sometimes called Pindani. This is a monomorphic maternal mouthbrooder that makes its living grazing algae off of rocks. As most Pseudotropheus, is an herbivore and territorial in the aquarium. There are several variations of this blue-bodied, rock-dwelling cichlid. These varities differ in coloring as well as in body shape. The most common difference seen is the lack of the black submarginal band in the dorsal fin which belongs to the races from Mara Point and Tumbi Point. Some have stronger, more visible vertical bars, while others lack them altogether.

Pseudotropheus Tropheops is endemic to Lake Malawi. It occurs between the Maleri Islands and Chinyamwezi Rocks. It inhabits rocky coastlines, island shores and reefs. Pseudotropheus Tropheops. exhibits a characteristic swimming angle of around 45 degrees when it is browsing for food and has a mouth de signed specifically to feed in this way. Pseudotropheus Tropheops typically feed off the filamentous algae with jerking twists of the body. Some types maintain "algal gardens".
